Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist physicians with diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterizations and peripheral procedures, ensuring patient safety and procedural efficiency
- Prepare patients and procedure rooms, verify documentation/consent, and collaborate with RNs to set up required equipment
- Operate X-ray and radiographic imaging equipment accurately and independently while maintaining radiation safety protocols
- Document all procedures in the MacLab system and ensure accurate procedure records and reports
- Demonstrate safe hemostasis techniques following procedures and support post-procedure patient care
- Manage procedure room turnover and infection control practices between cases to maintain a safe environment
- Administer intra-coronary medications in accordance with Bayhealth and unit policies
- Participate in ongoing professional development, complete mandatory trainings, and pursue specialty certification such as RCIS
Qualifications
- Associate degree in Radiologic Sciences or graduation from an accredited Cardiovascular Technology program (required)
- Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) or ARRT (RT) as applicable — obtain within required timeframes if not currently held
- Current ACLS and BLS certifications (BLS/ACLS required within 90 days if not already obtained)
- Eighteen (18) months of diagnostic radiology experience OR completion of an accredited radiologic/cardiovascular program with program director and clinical preceptor recommendation
- Preferred: Two (2) years of Cardiac Cath Lab experience performing diagnostic, interventional, and electrophysiology procedures
- Strong knowledge of catheter placement, peripheral angiography, and radiation safety
Education
- Associate Degree in Radiologic Sciences OR graduation from an accredited Cardiovascular Technology program (required)
- Bachelor's degree in Radiologic Technology or Cardiovascular Technology (preferred)
Knowledge & Skills
- Cardiac catheterization and peripheral angiography techniques
- X-ray and radiographic imaging operation and radiation safety
- MacLab documentation and procedural record-keeping
- Patient preparation, monitoring, and safe hemostasis techniques
- Intra-coronary medication administration and pharmacology basics for cath lab use
- Infection control and procedure room turnover best practices
- Experience with electrophysiology (EP) or interventional lab procedures is a plus
