Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide hands-on evaluation and treatment to patients (approximately 80% clinical practice) with compassion and clinical excellence
- Oversee and coordinate clinical education and competency processes for the Occupational Therapy team
- Directly supervise certified Occupational Therapy assistants (COTAs) and Rehabilitation Technicians, fostering growth and accountability
- Ensure departmental compliance with state regulations, policies, and professional standards
- Develop, update, and maintain Occupational Therapy policies and procedures addressing scope of care, evaluation/treatment standards, discharge planning, and documentation
- Lead discharge planning efforts to promote safe, patient-centered transitions
- Contribute to program development and complete administrative tasks as assigned (approximately 20% administrative time)
- Model and reinforce practice in accordance with the California State Practice Act and professional guidelines
Qualifications
- Graduate of an American Occupational Therapy Association–approved school of Occupational Therapy (required)
- Currently licensed as an Occupational Therapist in California (Board of Medical Quality Assurance) (required)
- Familiarity with California therapy board recommendations and departmental rehabilitation standards (required)
- Experience supervising COTAs and Rehabilitation Technicians and conducting clinical education/competency activities
- Strong documentation, clinical evaluation, and treatment skills
- AOTA membership (preferred)
- Ability to balance clinical caseload with leadership and administrative responsibilities
Education
- Graduate of an AOTA‑approved Occupational Therapy program (required)
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled in occupational therapy evaluation and patient treatment best practices
- Experienced in clinical supervision and mentoring of COTAs and rehab staff
- Proficient with documentation standards and regulatory compliance
- Knowledgeable in discharge planning and continuity of care processes
- Able to develop and maintain policy and procedure manuals
- Comfortable leading clinical education, competency assessments, and program development
