Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide focused 1:1 labor support including assessment, comfort measures, labor coaching and timely nursing interventions
• Monitor, interpret and document electronic fetal heart rate tracings using current NICHD terminology and perform scheduled NSTs
• Deliver perioperative nursing care for C-section patients from post-op recovery through discharge
• Stabilize and prepare high-risk maternal and neonatal patients for transfer to tertiary care as needed
• Triage OB phone calls and unscheduled outpatients to ensure safe, timely care
• Teach and support breastfeeding, perform well-baby checks and provide family-centered education at discharge
• Respond calmly and decisively to emergencies (trauma, fetal distress, C-section) and perform total peri-operative nursing duties
• Supervise and delegate to CNAs, LPNs and unit support staff; maintain accountability for patient care and documentation

Qualifications

• Current full, unrestricted Registered Nursing license in Alaska or another U.S. state required (Direct hire: must have applied for Alaska license before start; agency staff: active Alaska license required)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required on hire; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) to be completed within first six months and renewed biannually
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications required (or to be obtained per hire policy)
• Minimum one year of clinical nursing experience preferred; prior OB/Labor & Delivery specialty experience preferred
• Ability to work independently in high-acuity and emergency situations, and to provide leadership/mentorship to unit staff

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Current Registered Nurse licensure (state RN license as noted above)

Knowledge & Skills

• Patient assessment and focused nursing admission/assessment skills across age groups
• Medication administration, documentation and infection control best practices
• Electronic fetal monitoring proficiency and interpretation using NICHD terminology
• Perioperative C-section care, neonatal care and postpartum support including breastfeeding education
• Emergency response skills and the ability to stabilize and coordinate transfers for high-risk patients
• Strong communication, delegation and supervisory skills with experience documenting nursing care accurately
