Roles & Responsibilities
- Coordinate and deliver high-quality emergency and acute nursing care for patients of all ages
- Perform thorough patient assessments, develop individualized care plans, and document care in the EMR
- Make independent clinical decisions during your shift and consult leadership or ancillary departments for complex cases
- Supervise, delegate to, and mentor CNAs/Techs to ensure safe, efficient patient care
- Follow infection control and isolation protocols to maintain a safe environment
- Transcribe physician orders accurately and maintain medication administration records (MAR)
- Participate in departmental initiatives, training, and continuous improvement efforts
- Ensure supplies, medications, and equipment are maintained and reported when replenishment is needed
Qualifications
- Current, full, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alaska — or active RN license in another U.S. state with application submitted for Alaska before start (for direct hire)
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS required (may be obtained within 6 months of hire if not current)
- TNCC preferred and required for ED nurses
- Clinical Competency and High Risk Competency per employer timelines (within 3 months)
- Comfort supervising CNAs/Techs and working independently in emergent situations
- No prior experience required; acute care, ED, or long-term care experience preferred
- Ability to meet physical requirements of the role (including occasional patient lifting up to 50 lbs) and pass standard background/health checks
Education
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing: BSN, ADN, or Diploma in Nursing
- High school diploma or equivalent required
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of nursing and medical practices and procedures
- Skill in emergency response and sound clinical decision-making under pressure
- Infection control and isolation technique proficiency
- Patient/resident assessment and individualized care planning
- Excellent documentation and EMR charting abilities
- Medication administration and MAR experience
- Ability to delegate, supervise, and communicate effectively with patients, families, and team members
- Familiarity with laws, regulations, and standards governing hospital and long-term care settings
