Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform and analyze a variety of clinical laboratory tests across microbiology, chemistry, hematology, immunology, transfusion medicine, toxicology, and molecular diagnostics
- Collect, handle, and process specimens carefully to preserve sample integrity and ensure accurate results
- Report timely, accurate results to clinicians and collaborate with physicians to support patient care
- Maintain rigorous quality control and participate in proficiency testing to uphold laboratory standards
- Troubleshoot instruments and assays, escalating issues and coordinating repairs when needed
- Document procedures, results, and quality records clearly and in compliance with laboratory policies and regulations
- Support daily laboratory operations to ensure smooth workflow during night hours and assist cross-shift transitions
Qualifications
- Current eligibility or licensure as a Medical Laboratory Scientist / MLS in the practicing jurisdiction, or ability to obtain state licensure
- Certification through ASCP, AMT, or equivalent is preferred
- Experience or training in microbiology, chemistry, hematology, immunology, transfusion medicine, toxicology, or molecular diagnostics
- Competence in specimen collection and handling procedures
- Ability to work night shift schedules and adapt to a fast-paced clinical environment
- Strong attention to detail, troubleshooting skills, and a commitment to quality and patient safety
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field, or equivalent clinical laboratory training
Knowledge & Skills
- Solid understanding of clinical laboratory testing principles and methodologies
- Familiarity with quality control practices and regulatory compliance
- Skilled in specimen handling, processing, and chain-of-custody procedures
- Experience with laboratory information systems (LIS) and electronic result reporting
- Instrument operation and basic maintenance troubleshooting
- Effective communication skills for interacting with clinicians and laboratory colleagues
