Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide hands-on clinical support and expert guidance to nursing staff, students, and new hires on the med/surg unit
- Plan, develop, deliver, and evaluate orientation and ongoing continuing education sessions
- Mentor staff and act as a clinical practice resource for complex patient care and medication administration
- Analyze patient data to identify practice gaps and design targeted interventions to improve outcomes
- Facilitate implementation of new clinical protocols, equipment, and evidence-based practices with relevant training
- Serve as a clear liaison between bedside staff and leadership to communicate concerns and improvements
- Conduct quality control audits and report findings to promote safety, accuracy, and regulatory compliance
- Advocate for patients and families, promoting ethical standards and patient-centered care
Qualifications
- Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse license — State of Alaska
- Minimum 5 years of acute care RN experience preferred
- Basic Life Support (BLS) — American Heart Association
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) — American Heart Association
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) — American Heart Association
- Clinical Competency Assessment (SEARHC) and High Risk Competency (SEARHC)
- Nursing degree required; BSN preferred
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills; flexibility to work weekends/holidays as needed
Education
- Nursing degree required (Diploma/Associate or BSN)
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Sound knowledge of clinical practice standards and acute care procedures
- Skilled in comprehensive patient assessment and safe medication administration
- Experience managing acutely ill patients and using pertinent medical equipment
- Familiarity with evidence-based practice, quality improvement, and protocol implementation
- Effective teaching methods and clinical education skills for diverse audiences
- Proficient with electronic health records and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Strong critical thinking, communication, interpersonal, and organizational abilities
