Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on clinical support and expert guidance to nursing staff, students, and new hires on the med/surg unit
• Plan, develop, deliver, and evaluate orientation and ongoing continuing education sessions
• Mentor staff and act as a clinical practice resource for complex patient care and medication administration
• Analyze patient data to identify practice gaps and design targeted interventions to improve outcomes
• Facilitate implementation of new clinical protocols, equipment, and evidence-based practices with relevant training
• Serve as a clear liaison between bedside staff and leadership to communicate concerns and improvements
• Conduct quality control audits and report findings to promote safety, accuracy, and regulatory compliance
• Advocate for patients and families, promoting ethical standards and patient-centered care

Qualifications

• Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse license — State of Alaska
• Minimum 5 years of acute care RN experience preferred
• Basic Life Support (BLS) — American Heart Association
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) — American Heart Association
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) — American Heart Association
• Clinical Competency Assessment (SEARHC) and High Risk Competency (SEARHC)
• Nursing degree required; BSN preferred
• Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills; flexibility to work weekends/holidays as needed

Education

• Nursing degree required (Diploma/Associate or BSN)
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Sound knowledge of clinical practice standards and acute care procedures
• Skilled in comprehensive patient assessment and safe medication administration
• Experience managing acutely ill patients and using pertinent medical equipment
• Familiarity with evidence-based practice, quality improvement, and protocol implementation
• Effective teaching methods and clinical education skills for diverse audiences
• Proficient with electronic health records and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Strong critical thinking, communication, interpersonal, and organizational abilities
