Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive echocardiogram studies including transthoracic 2-D, M-Mode, color-flow Doppler and transesophageal exams
- Conduct exercise and pharmacological stress echocardiography accurately and efficiently
- Perform EKGs, Holter prep/monitoring/analysis and cardiac stress tests as assigned
- Utilize echocardiographs, cardiac stress systems, electrocardiographs and Holter monitors to obtain high-quality diagnostic data
- Assess and document scheduling and hospital information systems for proper processing of studies
- Implement infection control practices and follow aseptic techniques to ensure patient safety
- Provide age-specific care across the lifespan, including neonatal and pediatric patients
- Precept and mentor students from contracted colleges and universities, supporting clinical education
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) credential required
- Completion of an echocardiography certification program and/or a minimum of 2 years hands-on echocardiography experience
- Preferred: certificate or formal training in Cardiovascular Sonography
- Preferred: extensive hospital-based experience and pediatric/neonatal echocardiography experience
- Comfort with clinical teaching, preceptorship, and mentorship responsibilities
Education
- High School Diploma or GED (required)
- Completion of an echocardiography certification program (required or equivalent experience)
- Cardiovascular Sonography certificate/program (preferred)
Knowledge & Skills
- Proficient in transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography techniques
- Skilled with M-Mode, color-flow Doppler and exercise/pharmacologic stress echo
- Experienced with EKGs, Holter monitoring and cardiac stress testing
- Familiar with hospital information and scheduling systems
- Strong infection control and aseptic technique knowledge
- Ability to provide compassionate, age-specific patient care for neonatal through geriatric patients
- Effective communicator and collaborator with physicians, nurses and students
