Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive echocardiographic studies including transthoracic 2-D, M-Mode, color-flow Doppler and transesophageal exams with precision and care
- Conduct exercise and pharmacological stress echocardiography to provide critical diagnostic information
- Perform electrocardiograms, Holter monitoring setup/analysis, and cardiac stress testing accurately and efficiently
- Operate and maintain echocardiography and cardiac diagnostic equipment to ensure optimal performance and patient safety
- Apply age-specific care practices for neonatal, pediatric and adult patients to ensure comfort and clinical accuracy
- Implement infection control and aseptic techniques, including equipment disinfection, to protect patients and staff
- Use hospital information systems for scheduling, processing and accurate documentation/charging of studies
- Serve as a clinical resource and preceptor for students and trainees, providing guidance and teaching during clinical rotations
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS/RDCS) required
- Successful completion of an echocardiography certification program or a minimum of two years hands-on echocardiography experience
- Preferred: Cardiovascular Sonography certificate and extensive hospital-based echocardiography experience
- Preferred: Experience with pediatric and neonatal echocardiography
- Comfort with interacting with physicians, nurses and multidisciplinary teams
Education
- High School Diploma or GED (required)
- Certificate program in Cardiovascular Sonography (preferred)
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography techniques (2D, M-Mode, Doppler)
- Experience with stress echocardiography (exercise and pharmacological)
- Proficiency in EKG acquisition/interpretation, Holter monitoring setup and analysis, and cardiac stress testing
- Competence operating echocardiographs, cardiac stress systems, electrocardiographs and Holter monitors
- Familiarity with hospital information systems for scheduling, documentation and charging
- Infection control practices, aseptic technique and equipment disinfection
- Excellent patient care skills across the lifespan (neonatal, pediatric, adult)
- Strong communication skills for precepting students and collaborating with clinical teams
