Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, evidence-based nursing care to hemodynamically stable or predictably unstable PCU patients
- Assess patients continuously and intervene early for changes in condition using advanced clinical judgment
- Operate and manage advanced medical equipment including multiple IV pumps and ventilatory support (invasive & non-invasive)
- Manage complex lines and devices: central lines, arterial lines, chest tubes, nasogastric tubes and continuous bladder irrigation
- Interpret telemetry and EKGs to inform timely clinical decisions
- Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate admissions, ongoing care, and safe discharges
- Act as a clinical leader on the unit and assist with precepting new staff to maintain high standards of care
- Provide clear direction to unit staff including RNs, LPNs, CNAs and support personnel to ensure efficient patient care
Qualifications
- Current State of Montana RN licensure (required)
- BLS, ACLS, PALS required (or obtain within 6 months of hire)
- Practice in an advanced Medical/Surgical unit and recent Critical Care or Progressive Care nursing experience (required)
- EPNC and TNCC certifications preferred
- Comfort with precepting and clinical leadership responsibilities
Education
- Degree from a Nursing Program
Knowledge & Skills
- Telemetry and basic cardiac monitoring
- EKG interpretation
- Ventilator support (invasive & non-invasive)
- Use and troubleshooting of multiple IV pumps
- Care for arterial lines, central lines, chest tubes and nasogastric tubes
- Discharge planning and effective patient/family communication
- Ability to operate advanced medical equipment and apply advanced nursing principles
