Roles & Responsibilities
- Audit medical records for accurate CPT and ICD-10 coding, ensuring codes match clinical documentation
- Compile clear, actionable audit reports with analysis and findings to support continuous improvement
- Communicate with providers to validate observations and provide educational feedback that improves documentation
- Design and implement documentation tools and education plans in collaboration with the Revenue Cycle Manager
- Maintain audit logs and ensure audits meet productivity and quality targets
- Train new revenue cycle staff on coding and documentation best practices to raise the whole team's game
- Perform coding procedures as needed and support BHMG coding and billing staff with day-to-day questions
- Assist management with evaluation of coding activities and performance reviews when requested
Qualifications
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC) — required
- Associate Degree in a related field — required; Bachelor's Degree in a related field preferred
- Minimum five years of inpatient and outpatient coding and auditing experience
- Professional physician coding experience in a medical office-based setting
- Experience communicating with providers and delivering education/feedback
- Experience with multi-specialty coding and coding professional claims is a plus
Education
- Associate Degree in a related field (required)
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field (preferred)
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding guidelines
- Medical record auditing and clinical documentation review expertise
- Comfortable with provider communication and education
- Experience with inpatient and outpatient coding workflows
- Familiarity with charge entry and revenue cycle processes
- Ability to compile audit reports and analyze findings clearly and concisely
