Roles & Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain a best-in-class Infection Prevention & Control program that meets regulatory and evidence-based standards
- Lead surveillance efforts, collect and analyze infection control data, and prepare timely reports to NHSN and other agencies
- Translate data and regulatory guidance into clear policies, procedures, and actionable plans
- Design and deliver engaging training and education for staff, patients, and community partners
- Chair the Infection Prevention & Control committee and provide leadership across teams
- Oversee the Employee Health program and ensure clinical and manager competencies are met
- Collaborate with public health, regional partners, and internal leaders to coordinate IPC activities
- Travel to SEARHC sites to assess, educate, and support frontline teams in remote settings
Qualifications
- Current, full, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alaska or another U.S. state (Direct hires must have applied for Alaska license before start; agency staff must hold an active Alaska license)
- Bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related field (nursing, public health, epidemiology, microbiology, or similar) required
- Master's degree (MPH, MSN) preferred
- Certification in Infection Control and Prevention (CIC) required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) current within 3 months of hire and maintained biannually
- Minimum 3 years of acute care and/or infection control, data collection, performance improvement, or risk management experience
- Clinical competency and manager competency to be completed within 3 months of hire and maintained as required
- Experience with basic statistics and epidemiological principles; long-term care experience is a plus
- Ability and willingness to travel to remote sites via jet, small plane, or ferry
Education
- Bachelor's degree in nursing, public health, epidemiology, microbiology, or similar (required)
- Master's degree (MPH, MSN) preferred
- High school diploma or equivalent (baseline requirement noted)
Knowledge & Skills
- Working knowledge of epidemiology and infectious disease principles
- Experience with NHSN reporting, surveillance, data collection, and trend analysis
- Proficient with MS Office and database applications for reporting and analysis
- Strong skills in policy development, implementation, and regulatory synthesis (CDC, CMS, OSHA, FDA, TJC, APIC)
- Project management and performance improvement methodology experience
- Clear, culturally aware communication skills for diverse audiences
- Supervisory and team leadership skills with the ability to work independently
