Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive nursing assessments and document findings accurately in the EHR
- Safely administer medications and therapeutics and monitor resident responses
- Develop, implement, and update individualized care plans in collaboration with the care team
- Provide leadership on shift: delegate, supervise, and support CNAs, LPNs, and other staff
- Make calm, timely clinical decisions during routine and emergency situations
- Teach and coach residents, families, and staff; lead in-services and education activities
- Coordinate care with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to ensure continuity
- Maintain infection control practices and ensure resident safety standards are met
- Complete required competencies, maintain certifications, and participate in quality initiatives
Qualifications
- Current, full, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alaska or another U.S. state (Direct hire must have applied for an Alaska license before start; agency staff must hold an active Alaska license)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (American Heart Association)
- Clinical Competency assessment required within 3 months of hire and every three years
- High Risk Competency required within 3 months of hire and annually
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum 1-2 years of nursing experience preferred, ideally in long-term care or similar settings
- Ability to meet physical demands of the role, including lifting/moving up to 50 lbs
Education
- Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), or Nursing Diploma
Knowledge & Skills
- Solid grounding in nursing assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation
- Knowledge of pharmaceuticals, side effects, and safe administration practices
- Proficiency with EHR documentation and accurate charting
- Competence in basic and specialized equipment operation, including AED use
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for patient/family education and team handoffs
- Leadership, delegation, and supervisory skills for coordinating unit care
- Infection control principles and practices for resident safety
- Ability to recognize and respond to changes in resident condition and emergencies
