Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform thorough triage and patient assessments for urgent care visits and by phone
- Administer medications and IV therapy (including IV push and infusion) safely and accurately
- Document assessments, interventions, patient education and follow-up clearly in the EMR
- Coordinate referrals and track outcomes, acting as a bridge between patients and specialists
- Maintain infection control standards and keep clinic supplies and equipment ready
- Provide compassionate patient education and follow-up calls to ensure continuity of care
- Work collaboratively with RNs, LPNs, clinical assistants and providers to keep patient flow efficient
- Participate in department improvement efforts and maintain required clinical competencies
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and eligible to take the NCLEX
- Current full, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alaska or another U.S. state required (Direct hire must have applied for Alaska license prior to start; agency staff must hold an active Alaska license)
- Minimum 2 years of general nursing experience, with at least 1 year in ambulatory or urgent care preferred
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred
- Clinical Competency assessment required within 3 months of hire and every three years
- High Risk Competency required within 3 months of hire and annually
- Ability to perform physical demands of the role (frequent standing/walking and occasional lifting up to 50 lbs)
Education
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (RN)
- High school diploma or equivalent
Knowledge & Skills
- Triage and patient assessment across the lifespan
- IV therapy, medication administration (oral, topical, IM, SQ, intradermal, IV push/infusion)
- Telephone triage and clear, compassionate patient communication
- Proficient charting and use of EMR systems
- Infection control principles and clinic safety procedures
- Prioritization, multitasking and critical thinking in a fast-paced setting
- Referral coordination and care follow-up tracking
- Ability to collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams and support process improvements
