Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, hands-on care to geriatric residents — assist with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, toileting)
- Monitor and document vital signs and any changes in condition, communicating concerns to nursing staff
- Assist with safe transfers and mobility to promote independence and prevent falls
- Support mealtime assistance and ensure residents receive appropriate nutrition and hydration
- Maintain a clean, safe environment and follow infection control procedures
- Build trusting relationships with residents and families through respectful, person-centered care
- Accurately document care tasks and report observations in line with facility policies
Qualifications
- Current GNA (Geriatric Nursing Assistant) certification required
- Active CPR/BLS certification preferred or completed during onboarding
- Ability to pass background check and required health screenings (e.g., TB test, immunizations)
- Comfortable with physical aspects of the role, including lifting and assisting residents
- Strong communication skills and a team-first attitude
- Previous experience in long-term care or geriatric settings is a plus
Education
- High school diploma or GED
- Completion of an approved GNA program or equivalent training
Knowledge & Skills
- Familiarity with activities of daily living (ADLs) and basic geriatric care
- Ability to take and record vital signs accurately
- Basic infection control and hand hygiene practices
- Safe patient handling and transfer techniques
- Good documentation and observational skills
- Compassionate bedside manner and effective communication with residents and families
