Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate overnight care to geriatric residents, helping them feel safe and respected
- Assist residents with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, toileting, mobility)
- Monitor residents’ condition during the shift and promptly report changes to nursing staff
- Document care accurately and thoroughly to support continuity and quality
- Support a calm, comfortable environment by following care plans and safety protocols
- Collaborate with nurses and interdisciplinary team members to meet resident needs
- Help with meal assistance and ensure residents receive appropriate nutrition during the shift
Qualifications
- Valid GNA certification (required)
- Current state credentials or ability to meet local licensure requirements
- Previous experience in geriatric or long-term care settings preferred
- Comfort working overnight hours and supporting residents with diverse needs
- Ability to pass background checks and any facility-required screenings
- Strong communication skills and a compassionate, resident-first attitude
Education
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Completion of a Geriatric Nursing Assistant training program or equivalent certification
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of geriatric care principles and resident dignity
- Skill in assisting with ADLs and safe patient transfers
- Basic documentation and observation skills with attention to detail
- Familiarity with infection control and safe hygiene practices
- Good interpersonal skills for working with residents and the care team
- Ability to respond calmly and effectively in urgent situations
