Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide perioperative nursing care in the OR and endoscopy suite, ensuring patient safety before, during, and after procedures
• Scrub, assist, or learn to scrub for cases including endoscopy, cataracts, C-sections, D&Cs, and podiatry
• Manage instrument sterilization and resterilization processes to maintain aseptic technique
• Perform and support IV therapy, blood transfusions, and wound care when patients require it
• Use Meditech 6 for charting and accurate documentation of patient care
• Float to admission/discharge areas when surgical volume is low to support outpatient flows
• Participate in on-call coverage, respond promptly to calls, and collaborate with the OR supervisor and house nurse coordinator
• Cross-train and work alongside CSTs and other staff to cover OR tech duties when needed
• Help maintain unit readiness, assist with patient education, and contribute to a positive perioperative experience

Qualifications

• Active RN license (ND or compact as applicable) required
• BLS and ACLS certifications required, PALS preferred
• Minimum 1 year RN experience (the unit prefers 2 years of perioperative experience but it is not required)
• Willingness to learn to scrub; prior scrub or OR experience is a plus
• Comfort with Meditech 6 charting preferred
• Ability to respond to on-call notifications within approximately 20 minutes
• Comfort floating to admissions/discharge and assisting with IV therapy, wound dressing changes, and blood transfusions

Education

• Active RN license required; BSN not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Perioperative and OR nursing fundamentals
• Endoscopy procedures and workflow
• C-section and obstetric perioperative support
• Cataract extraction familiarity is a plus
• Sterilization and instrument processing best practices
• IV therapy, wound care, and blood transfusion support
• Scrubbing skills or readiness to learn scrubbing techniques
• EMR proficiency, specifically Meditech 6
• Team communication, call responsiveness, and cross-training adaptability
