Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive Labor & Delivery and Mother-Baby care across antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum phases
• Perform and assist with deliveries, including functioning in the NRP (newborn resuscitation) role and catching babies when needed
• Serve as a circulating RN during C-sections and provide recovery room support
• Closely monitor and interpret fetal heart tracings and EKG strips, acting on changes promptly
• Collaborate with obstetricians, anesthesiology, hospitalists/intensivists, RT and pharmacy for seamless patient care
• Document patient care accurately and efficiently in Cerner
• Provide charge nurse duties and break relief when assigned; support nursing aides as census dictates
• Float to other Sacramento facilities occasionally and maintain flexibility for mid-shift needs

Qualifications

• Active RN license (able to submit license for California)
• Minimum 2 years of recent L&D / Mother-Baby experience (no first-time travelers)
• Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NRP; Advanced Fetal Monitoring required (copy at submittal)
• STABLE certification preferred
• Demonstrated C-section / OR experience and comfort circulating in the OR
• Comfort and experience working the NRP role (catching babies highly preferred for night shift)
• Ability to float within the Sacramento area and respond within a 30-minute window if placed on call
• Must meet submission reference requirements (2 supervisor references: 1 within 12 months and 1 within 3 years)

Education

• Active RN license required
• ADN/diploma or BSN accepted (BSN not required)

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient in Cerner electronic medical record documentation
• Strong fetal monitoring and advanced fetal assessment skills
• Newborn resuscitation (NRP) and newborn stabilization knowledge
• EKG strip reading and telemetry interpretation
• Skilled in breastfeeding support and mother-baby couplet care
• Effective communication and interdisciplinary teamwork
• Ability to function independently in fast-paced acute care L&D settings
