Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality emergency nursing care for a busy 21-bed ER, including fast-track and med-surg/tele holds
- Triage and prioritize patients, escalating to MD/hospitalist/intensivist as needed
- Manage critically ill patients and adjust care when an ICU-level patient requires 1:2 ratios
- Safely manage ventilated patients in collaboration with Respiratory Therapy (RT)
- Document thoroughly and accurately in Cerner to ensure continuity of care
- Collaborate with charge nurse, shift manager and multidisciplinary teams (RT, pharmacy, MET Team) to optimize patient outcomes
- Support and mentor ED techs and float effectively between campuses when required
- Participate in stroke care workflows (Primary Stroke Center processes) and NIHSS assessments
Qualifications
- Active RN license (state-appropriate) or eligible to practice in California
- Minimum 3 years of RN experience (per job posting)
- Emergency Department experience strongly preferred
- Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS, NIHSS
- Comfortable with Cerner electronic charting and Omnicell pharmacy system
- Experience with telemetry (Philips) and ventilator/critical care basics preferred
- Ability to work nights, weekends per schedule, float between nearby facilities, and respond to call within 30 minutes
Education
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) accepted (BSN not required)
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong emergency assessment and triage skills
- Proficiency with Cerner electronic medical records
- Cardiac/respiratory monitoring and ventilator familiarity
- Familiarity with NIHSS stroke assessments and stroke center protocols
- Comfortable working in fast-paced, variable-volume ER settings (day-to-day census may vary widely)
- Excellent teamwork, communication, and adaptability under pressure
- Able to follow unit-specific protocols and infection control standards
