Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and monitor pediatric patients, recognizing early changes in respiratory status and other acute presentations
• Administer medications and therapies safely using medfusion pumps and hospital protocols
• Start and manage peripheral IVs independently with strong clinical and technical skill
• Document care accurately in Cerner to support continuity and quality of care
• Collaborate with in-house pediatric hospitalists and the interdisciplinary team for patient-centered plans
• Provide post-operative and acute care for common pediatric conditions such as DKA, seizures, dehydration and respiratory distress
• Float to PICU or Burn ICU for appropriate acuity patients while maintaining safe ratios and standards
• Support unit needs during weekends, holidays and when placed on standby, demonstrating flexibility and professionalism

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse license valid for practice in California
• Minimum 3 years pediatric nursing experience required; NO first-time travel nurses
• Current BLS and PALS certifications required
• Proven IV insertion skills and comfort with pediatric vascular access
• Experience charting in Cerner and using medfusion infusion pumps
• Comfort with telemetry monitoring and caring for surgical and medical pediatric patients
• Ability to work a 12-hour night schedule, every-other-weekend, and float to PICU/Burn as needed

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Nursing Diploma accepted; BSN not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong pediatric assessment and clinical decision-making
• Skilled in IV starts, medication administration and pump programming
• Proficient with Cerner electronic medical records
• Experience managing respiratory distress, DKA, seizures and post-op pediatric care
• Familiarity with telemetry monitoring and pediatric monitoring needs
• Excellent communication, teamwork and ability to adapt in a fast-paced acute care setting
