Shift Type: Mon, Tue, Wed 6:30 AM - 5:00 PM; Sun 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM — Day shift. May require evening call; Sunday and holiday coverage expected as needed; Every-other-week rotation (EOW) and 'first to float' responsibilities.
Hours per Week: 40
Candidate Pay Rate: $51 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities
- Prepare and compound sterile and non-hazardous IV medications using proper aseptic technique — accuracy saves lives
- Package, label and unit-dose medications for inpatient and limited outpatient use
- Restock and retrieve medications from med rooms, carts and automated dispensing machines (Omnicell/Pyxis)
- Verify medication orders and assist the pharmacist with medication-related problem resolution
- Maintain cleanroom and IV hood cleanliness with daily and weekly cleaning routines
- Monitor inventory for expirations and proper storage, and complete quality control documentation
- Prepare and restock emergency medication trays and boxes so teams are ready when seconds count
- Serve as a reliable point of contact for nursing and clinical staff across ER, ICU, MedSurg, surgery and infusion
Qualifications
- Active California pharmacy technician license required — candidates without CA licensure will not be considered
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
- Minimum 2 years pharmacy technician experience (hospital experience required/preferred)
- Demonstrated IV/sterile compounding experience — must be able to make IVs
- Experience with automated dispensing systems (Omnicell or Pyxis) and unit-dose pre-packaging
- Comfort working independently in a small facility as the primary technician after orientation
- Familiarity with medication verification processes and pharmacy workflows
- Experience in or exposure to infusion/chemotherapy preferred
Education
- High school diploma or GED required
- Pharmacy technician certification or formal training preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Aseptic technique and sterile compounding best practices
- IV preparation and hazardous/non-hazardous IV hood cleaning
- Automated dispensing systems (Omnicell, Pyxis) operation and restocking
- Unit dose packaging and medication labeling
- Medication inventory management and expiration monitoring
- Medication verification processes and basic pharmacy calculations
- Electronic charting familiarity (Cerner noted in facility)
