Roles & Responsibilities
- Evaluate and assess individuals with disabilities, injuries, or illnesses to establish baseline function and therapy goals
- Create personalized treatment plans using therapeutic activities to restore or maintain daily living and work skills
- Teach patients how to use adaptive equipment and provide hands-on training for independence
- Recommend and implement environmental modifications at home, school, or work to improve safety and function
- Provide activities of daily living training to enhance patient autonomy
- Deliver clear patient education to families and caregivers to support carryover outside therapy sessions
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and document progress to ensure cohesive, high-quality care
Qualifications
- Active Occupational Therapy license in Texas or a valid compact license (required)
- Minimum 2 years Occupational Therapist experience in long-term care (required)
- Proven ability to develop individualized treatment plans and document progress clearly
- Comfort working with geriatric and senior living populations in a skilled nursing or long-term care setting
- Strong communication skills for patient education and care team collaboration
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled in treatment planning and designing therapeutic activities
- Experience with adaptive equipment training and ADL interventions
- Knowledge of environmental modification techniques to improve independence
- Familiarity with geriatric care and senior living best practices
- Patient education and caregiver training skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with physical therapy, nursing, and support staff
