Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, evidence-based psychiatric nursing care to children in crisis
- Conduct thorough mental health assessments and monitor changes in condition
- Lead and participate in team nursing rounds and multidisciplinary treatment meetings
- Coordinate discharge planning with social workers and physicians to ensure safe transitions
- Document care accurately and efficiently in EPIC
- Administer medications and manage secure medication systems using Omnicell
- Support de-escalation and safety interventions while maintaining therapeutic rapport
- Complete required competency testing and maintain certifications to meet facility standards
Qualifications
- Active RN license with Nursys verification (required)
- Minimum 2 years of psychiatric nursing experience (pediatric experience strongly preferred)
- BLS certification (required)
- DCI/BVP certification (required)
- Familiarity with EPIC electronic health record and Omnicell medication systems
- Successful completion of Prime Basic Pharmacology, Prime Core Competencies, Prime Skills Checklist and Prime Specialty Exam as required by the facility
- Ability to pass standard pre-employment screening: 10-panel drug screen, TB test, fit test, and required immunizations
Education
- Active RN license required (Nursys verification). Nursing diploma/ADN/BSN or equivalent training accepted.
Knowledge & Skills
- Child and adolescent crisis intervention techniques
- Strong assessment, documentation and clinical decision-making skills
- Team nursing and effective interdisciplinary communication
- Discharge planning and care coordination with community resources
- Medication administration protocols and safe handling via Omnicell
- Proficiency with EPIC charting and clinical workflows
- Ability to collaborate with physicians, social workers and behavioral health teams
