Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare the operating room by assembling sterile instruments, supplies and equipment
• Assist surgeons and the sterile team during procedures by anticipating needs and passing instruments
• Maintain strict sterile technique and ensure surgical field integrity throughout cases
• Count and track instruments, sponges and sharps before, during and after procedures
• Clean, decontaminate and restock instruments and trays following established protocols
• Communicate effectively with surgeons, nurses and anesthesia providers to support patient safety
• Document case activity and report any equipment or supply issues promptly
• Participate in unit huddles and quality improvement activities to enhance OR workflow

Qualifications

• Current certification or completion of an accredited surgical technologist program preferred
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required or ability to obtain prior to start
• Prior operating room or scrub tech experience preferred; eagerness to learn is essential
• Completion of required health screenings and immunizations as listed by the facility
• Ability to pass a Prime Core Competencies exam and Prime Specialty exam as required
• Successful completion of a 10-panel drug screen and any facility onboarding checks
• Strong attention to detail, manual dexterity and ability to work calmly in fast-paced settings

Education

• High school diploma or GED required
• Completion of an accredited surgical technologist program or equivalent preferred
• CST or other surgical technologist certification is a plus

Knowledge & Skills

• Solid knowledge of sterile technique and infection control practices
• Familiarity with common surgical instruments, equipment and procedure setup
• Ability to anticipate surgical team needs and respond quickly
• Clear communication skills and professional teamwork in the OR environment
• Good documentation and time-management skills
• Comfort working under pressure while maintaining patient safety focus
