Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, person-centered care to geriatric residents, treating each person with dignity
• Assist residents with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, toileting, grooming, feeding)
• Support safe mobility and transfers, using proper body mechanics and assistive devices
• Take and record vital signs and observe residents for changes in condition
• Document care accurately and communicate changes to nurses and the care team
• Follow infection control practices and facility policies to keep residents safe
• Build trusting relationships with residents and families through clear, kind communication
• Respond calmly and effectively in urgent situations, escalating as needed

Qualifications

• Current Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) certification or equivalent (state-specific certification required)
• CPR/BLS certification preferred or required by facility
• Ability to pass background check and drug screen as required
• Comfortable assisting with personal care and mobility for older adults
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset
• Previous experience in long-term care or geriatric settings is a plus

Education

• High school diploma or GED required
• GNA certification or state-equivalent credential required

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of geriatric care principles and dignity-focused practices
• Familiarity with ADLs, transfers, and safe resident handling
• Basic vital signs measurement and documentation skills
• Good charting and communication skills with the care team
• Understanding of infection prevention and standard precautions
• Patience, empathy, and the ability to work well under routine and unexpected conditions
