Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, person-centered care to geriatric residents, treating each person with dignity
- Assist residents with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, toileting, grooming, feeding)
- Support safe mobility and transfers, using proper body mechanics and assistive devices
- Take and record vital signs and observe residents for changes in condition
- Document care accurately and communicate changes to nurses and the care team
- Follow infection control practices and facility policies to keep residents safe
- Build trusting relationships with residents and families through clear, kind communication
- Respond calmly and effectively in urgent situations, escalating as needed
Qualifications
- Current Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) certification or equivalent (state-specific certification required)
- CPR/BLS certification preferred or required by facility
- Ability to pass background check and drug screen as required
- Comfortable assisting with personal care and mobility for older adults
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset
- Previous experience in long-term care or geriatric settings is a plus
Education
- High school diploma or GED required
- GNA certification or state-equivalent credential required
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of geriatric care principles and dignity-focused practices
- Familiarity with ADLs, transfers, and safe resident handling
- Basic vital signs measurement and documentation skills
- Good charting and communication skills with the care team
- Understanding of infection prevention and standard precautions
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to work well under routine and unexpected conditions
