Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, patient-centered nursing care on the inpatient rehab unit to help patients regain function and independence
• Administer medications including IVs, manage PICC lines and PEG tube care safely and accurately
• Perform bladder scans, trach care, tube feedings, foley catheter care, bladder irrigations and blood administration per unit protocols
• Document patient assessments and care thoroughly using Meditech to ensure continuity and compliance
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team — PT, OT, SLP, physicians, and neuropsychology — to support patient goals and discharge planning
• Maintain appropriate patient ratios and adapt to unit staffing needs, including floating to other Med/Surg areas when required
• Provide compassionate education and support to patients and families focused on functional recovery

Qualifications

• Active Virginia RN license (VA nursing license) required
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 2+ years clinical nursing experience; Med/Surg or PCU experience is required
• Rehab experience preferred and encouraged
• Comfortable performing IV medication administration, PICC/PEG care, trach care, tube feedings and blood administration
• Ability to work 12-hour day shifts and every other weekend as scheduled

Knowledge & Skills

• Familiarity with Meditech electronic medical record
• Skilled with Baxter IV pumps, bladder scanners and standard inpatient rehab equipment
• Strong patient assessment and clinical decision-making skills
• Experience with rehabilitation-focused, interdisciplinary care planning
• Effective communication and teamwork across nursing, therapy disciplines, and physicians
