Shift Type: Rotating day and evening shifts: 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM and 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM, with variable weekend call requirements and weekday on-call coverage (11:00 PM - 7:00 AM) as needed; may include occasional 10-hour mid shifts and evening/weekend rotation
Hours per Week: 40
Candidate Pay Rate: $84 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide safe, high-quality perioperative nursing care in the operating room for a high-volume suite (approximately 8 suites, ~15 cases/day)
- Scrub and assist surgeons during a wide variety of cases including ortho (total joints/heavy ortho), general surgery, podiatry, urology, gyn, vascular, spine and plastics
- Accurately document patient care and perioperative flowsheets in Cerner EMR
- Collaborate with OR techs, anesthesia, RT and pharmacy teams to ensure efficient, safe case flow
- Serve as charge nurse or team lead when assigned—coordinate staffing and case assignments
- Respond to call assignments within a 30-minute response time and support weekend/holiday coverage as needed
- Participate in unit orientation and continuous improvement activities to keep the OR running smoothly
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license—eligible to practice in California
- Minimum 2 years of perioperative/OR nursing experience (orthopedic and general surgery experience strongly preferred)
- Cerner EMR experience required
- ACLS and BLS certifications required
- Scrubbing experience preferred; ability to scrub for cases is a plus
- Travel nursing experience preferred and flexibility with schedule and call requirements
- Ability to work in a union environment and collaborate with permanent staff and leadership
Education
- Current RN license (California) — required
- BSN is not required for this role
Knowledge & Skills
- Perioperative nursing best practices and sterile technique
- Proficiency with Cerner electronic medical record/charting
- Strong clinical judgment in the OR setting for case management and patient safety
- Experience with orthopedic procedures (total joints, heavy ortho) and general surgery
- Effective communication and teamwork with surgeons, anesthesiology, techs, and support services
- Comfort responding to on-call situations and working variable schedules
- Familiarity with infection control, case setup, instrumentation and OR equipment
