Roles & Responsibilities

• Coordinate and deliver individualized, goal-oriented nursing care for long-term care residents
• Perform thorough nursing assessments and document findings in the EHR
• Administer medications and therapeutics accurately and safely
• Lead the unit as charge RN when assigned, delegating and supervising CNAs, LPNs, and ward clerks
• Provide resident and family education, discharge planning, and emotional support
• Respond calmly and effectively to emergencies and changing resident conditions
• Develop, implement, and revise care plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team
• Participate in care conferences, staff meetings, and competency training to maintain high standards

Qualifications

• Current full, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alaska or another U.S. state required (Direct hire must have applied for Alaska RN license before start; agency staff must hold an active Alaska license)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association
• Clinical Competency Assessment required within 3 months of hire and every three years
• High Risk Competency required within 3 months of hire and annually
• Minimum 1-2 years of nursing experience preferred in long-term care or related settings
• High school diploma or equivalent required; ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs

Education

• Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing (BSN, ADN, or Diploma in Nursing)

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong nursing assessment, care planning, and documentation skills
• Proficient in medication administration and infection control practices
• Familiarity with pharmaceuticals, side effects, and monitoring
• Experience with EHR documentation and accurate charting
• Ability to operate and monitor basic and specialized equipment (e.g., AED)
• Excellent oral and written communication and teamwork skills
• Leadership abilities to guide staff and support a positive unit culture
• Competency recognizing and responding to acute changes in resident condition
