Roles & Responsibilities
- Coordinate and deliver individualized, goal-oriented nursing care for long-term care residents
- Perform thorough nursing assessments and document findings in the EHR
- Administer medications and therapeutics accurately and safely
- Lead the unit as charge RN when assigned, delegating and supervising CNAs, LPNs, and ward clerks
- Provide resident and family education, discharge planning, and emotional support
- Respond calmly and effectively to emergencies and changing resident conditions
- Develop, implement, and revise care plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team
- Participate in care conferences, staff meetings, and competency training to maintain high standards
Qualifications
- Current full, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alaska or another U.S. state required (Direct hire must have applied for Alaska RN license before start; agency staff must hold an active Alaska license)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association
- Clinical Competency Assessment required within 3 months of hire and every three years
- High Risk Competency required within 3 months of hire and annually
- Minimum 1-2 years of nursing experience preferred in long-term care or related settings
- High school diploma or equivalent required; ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs
Education
- Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing (BSN, ADN, or Diploma in Nursing)
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong nursing assessment, care planning, and documentation skills
- Proficient in medication administration and infection control practices
- Familiarity with pharmaceuticals, side effects, and monitoring
- Experience with EHR documentation and accurate charting
- Ability to operate and monitor basic and specialized equipment (e.g., AED)
- Excellent oral and written communication and teamwork skills
- Leadership abilities to guide staff and support a positive unit culture
- Competency recognizing and responding to acute changes in resident condition
