Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care for patients of all ages in the emergency/acute setting
- Assess patients, make sound clinical decisions, and initiate appropriate interventions independently during your shift
- Supervise and delegate to CNA/Tech staff to ensure safe, high-quality patient care
- Respond calmly and effectively in emergent situations and coordinate emergency measures
- Transcribe and document physician orders accurately in the medical record and MAR
- Maintain infection control standards and promote patient/resident safety at all times
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans in collaboration with the care team
- Manage supplies, equipment, and medication stocks; report needs to leadership
- Participate in staff meetings, training, and continuous quality improvement activities
Qualifications
- Current, full, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in Alaska or another U.S. state (Direct hire applicants must have applied for an Alaska license before start date; agency staff must hold an active Alaska license)
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (BSN, ADN, or Diploma)
- Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required or obtainable within 6 months
- Clinical Competency Assessment and High Risk Competency required within 3 months as specified and maintained per policy
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) preferred and required for ED nurses
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Ability to perform physical demands of the role, including intermittent movement during the shift and occasional lifting (up to 50 lbs)
- No prior experience required, though acute care, ED, or long-term care experience is preferred
Education
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Associate degree in Nursing, or Diploma in Nursing)
- High school diploma or equivalent
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong patient assessment and clinical decision-making skills
- Medication administration and accurate documentation (EMR, MAR)
- Emergency response and trauma nursing fundamentals
- Infection control practices and isolation techniques
- Ability to supervise, delegate, and work harmoniously with multidisciplinary teams
- Clear verbal and written communication with patients, families, and providers
- Familiarity with laws, regulations, and standards of care relevant to hospital and long-term care settings
