Roles & Responsibilities
- Prepare patients and assist the RN and physician in safe, efficient set-up and room preparation for cardiac and peripheral procedures
- Operate x-ray equipment accurately and independently to capture diagnostic and interventional imaging
- Ensure radiation safety compliance throughout procedures to protect patients and staff
- Obtain hemostasis safely and reliably following vascular access procedures
- Document procedures accurately in the MacLab system and verify consents and chart completeness prior to start
- Turn over procedure rooms following infection control protocols to maintain a safe environment
- Administer intra-coronary medications per unit and hospital policies when indicated
- Participate in ongoing professional development, maintain required certifications, and pursue specialty certification (RCIS) when appropriate
Qualifications
- Associate Degree in Radiologic Sciences OR Associate Degree / graduate of an accredited Cardiovascular Technology program (required)
- RCIS required if graduate of a Cardiovascular Technology program; ARRT (RT) required if graduate of a Radiologic Technologist program (obtain within 4 months if not already held)
- ACLS and BLS certifications required (BLS within 90 days if not already obtained)
- Eighteen (18) months of diagnostic radiology experience OR completion of an accredited radiologic technology or cardiovascular technology program with program director and clinical site preceptor recommendations
- Preferred: Two (2) years' experience in a Cardiac Cath Lab performing diagnostic, interventional, and electrophysiology procedures
- Demonstrated competence with MacLab documentation, radiation safety, and hemostasis techniques
Education
- Associate Degree in Radiologic Sciences OR Associate Degree in Cardiovascular Technology (required)
- Bachelor's Degree in Radiologic Technology or Cardiovascular Technology (preferred)
Knowledge & Skills
- Proficient in cardiac catheterization and peripheral angiography procedures
- Experience with diagnostic and interventional procedures and procedure room turnover
- Skilled in X-ray operation and radiation safety compliance
- Comfortable administering intra-coronary medications per protocol
- Familiar with MacLab procedure documentation and accurate charting
- Knowledge of infection control practices and safe patient preparation
- Bonus: electrophysiology or interventional lab experience, clinical education experience
