Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, high-quality cardiovascular intensive care to post-surgical and critically ill cardiac patients
• Assess and monitor hemodynamics, interpret cardiac rhythms, and respond quickly to patient changes
• Administer medications and titrate vasoactive agents safely and precisely
• Operate and troubleshoot ventilators and advanced monitoring equipment as needed
• Collaborate with cardiac surgeons, intensivists, and multidisciplinary team members to develop and implement care plans
• Educate patients and families about care plans, procedures, and post-ICU recovery
• Document patient status, interventions, and outcomes accurately in the medical record
• Participate in unit-based quality improvement initiatives to improve patient outcomes

Qualifications

• Active RN license (TX) or compact RN license eligible for practice in Texas
• Minimum 1 year of CVICU or equivalent critical care experience (as indicated)
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• CCRN or other critical care certification preferred
• Ability to work 12-hour day shifts and adapt to the fast-paced CVICU environment
• Up-to-date immunizations, background check, and any facility-required screenings

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required, BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong cardiac critical care knowledge including post-op cardiac care and hemodynamic monitoring
• Proficiency with telemetry, invasive monitoring, and ventilator management
• Excellent clinical judgment and ability to prioritize in high-acuity situations
• Clear, compassionate communication with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams
• Comfortable with accurate electronic health record documentation and handoffs
• Team-oriented mindset and commitment to patient safety and quality care
