Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform diagnostic sonographic examinations (all requested exams for radiologist interpretation)
- Apply radiation protection principles and exercise professional judgment during procedures
- Maintain accurate patient records, paperwork, and neat work areas
- Assist with ultrasound invasive procedures and care for Trophon station and transducers
- Participate in departmental quality assurance, accreditation efforts, and policy development
- Transfer patients safely to and from imaging and provide age-appropriate patient care
- Rotate shifts as required and assume departmental responsibility/supervision in the supervisor's absence
- Consult with referring physicians and communicate findings and procedural needs clearly
Qualifications
- Current ARDMS certification in at least one category (required: ABD or OB/GYN experience preferred)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association (required)
- Ability to perform all diagnostic exams related to assigned ultrasound modalities
- Willingness to pursue additional RDMS certifications and continuing education
- Comfort working with patients across the lifespan, from newborns to geriatric adults
- Able to rotate shifts and travel occasionally to serve other SEARHC sites
Education
- ARDMS certification in one modality (required)
- Ongoing pursuit of RDMS credentials encouraged; continuing education expected
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong skills in abdominal (ABD) and OB/GYN ultrasound
- Familiarity with vascular and cardiac ultrasound (echocardiography) is a plus
- Knowledge of sonographic principles, transducer care, and radiation protection
- Experience with quality assurance, accreditation processes, and documentation
- Patient transfer and safe handling techniques
- Ability to assist with ultrasound invasive procedures and maintain sterile technique
- Good communication and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and referring physicians
