Roles & Responsibilities
- Audit medical records to verify accurate CPT and ICD-10 code assignment and ensure documentation supports coding decisions
- Compile clear, actionable audit reports with analysis of findings to drive improvement
- Communicate with providers (verbal and written) to validate observations and recommend documentation enhancements
- Design and implement tools and education in collaboration with the Revenue Cycle Manager to support physician documentation
- Train and mentor revenue cycle and coding staff on coding guidelines and documentation best practices
- Perform coding tasks as needed and assist with evaluation of coding activities and staff performance
- Maintain audit logs and meet established productivity targets for record reviews
- Support BHMG coding and billing staff with coding guidance and process improvement
Qualifications
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC) — required
- Associate Degree in a related field — required
- Minimum five (5) years of inpatient and outpatient coding and auditing experience
- Demonstrated professional physician coding experience and familiarity with coding professional claims in an office-based setting
- Experience interacting with physicians to provide feedback and education on documentation and coding
- Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and coding experience in a multi-specialty group practice
Education
- Associate Degree in a related field (required)
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (preferred)
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding
- Clinical documentation improvement and ability to align documentation with coding
- Experience with inpatient and outpatient coding and medical record auditing
- Familiarity with coding professional claims and charge entry processes
- Revenue cycle knowledge and audit reporting skills
- Ability to educate providers and communicate coding findings clearly
- Comfort training staff and collaborating with clinical teams
- Multi-specialty coding exposure is a plus
