Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide direct, compassionate critical care to medical-surgical and ventilated patients using advanced monitoring and life-support equipment
- Operate and manage ventilators, A-lines, invasive lines, multiple IV pumps, and chest tubes safely and effectively
- Assess patients continuously and implement established policies and procedures with minimal supervision
- Coordinate patient care from admission through discharge, including discharge planning and patient/family education
- Act as a clinical leader on the unit, giving direction to RNs, LPNs, CNAs and support staff
- Precept, mentor, and support newer staff to raise clinical competency and confidence
- Collaborate with providers, charge nurses, supervisors, and the Chief Nursing Officer to ensure high-quality outcomes
Qualifications
- Current Montana RN licensure required
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
- PALS, EPNC, TNCC certifications preferred
- Recent practice in an advanced medical/surgical unit plus critical care nursing experience
- Comfort with ventilator management, invasive lines, chest tubes, and multiple IV pumps
- Strong clinical judgment, leadership, and the ability to precept others
Education
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program (Degree from a Nursing Program required)
Knowledge & Skills
- Advanced nursing principles and procedures in critical care
- Advanced patient monitoring and interpretation of hemodynamic data
- Ventilator management and respiratory support skills
- Central line (A-line) and invasive line management
- Chest tube care and troubleshooting
- Multiple IV pump management and medication administration safety
- Discharge planning and interprofessional communication
- Ability to use basic office equipment and electronic charting systems
