Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide age-specific preventive and periodontal hygiene care for patients across the lifespan
- Perform dental examinations, periodontal assessments, coronal polishing and topical fluoride applications
- Take and process dental radiographs and accurately record vitals and clinical findings
- Deliver clear, compassionate patient education on oral hygiene, home care and nutrition
- Manage patient scheduling and maintain efficient clinic flow
- Coordinate and lead community prevention activities, such as sealant clinics and health fairs
- Maintain hygienist supplies and ensure proper instrument sterilization and infection control
- Participate in required competencies and complete other duties as assigned to support the care team
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited two-year Dental Hygiene program (Bachelor’s degree preferred)
- Successful completion of the National Board Examination for Dental Hygienists
- Active Dental Hygiene license in Alaska or another U.S. state (Alaska license preferred)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 45 days of start and maintained thereafter
- Clinical Competency Assessment completed within 3 months of hire and every 3 years
- High Risk Competency completed within 3 months of hire and annually
- High school diploma or GED
Education
- Graduation from an accredited two-year Dental Hygiene program required
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong clinical hygiene skills and accurate clinical judgment
- Knowledge of dental and periodontal disease and appropriate treatment therapies
- Competence in dental radiography and use of dental instruments
- Proper infection control techniques and instrument sterilization practices
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and patient education ability
- Good manual dexterity and the ability to sit and work over patients for extended periods
