Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide age-specific preventive and periodontal hygiene care for patients across the lifespan
• Perform dental examinations, periodontal assessments, coronal polishing and topical fluoride applications
• Take and process dental radiographs and accurately record vitals and clinical findings
• Deliver clear, compassionate patient education on oral hygiene, home care and nutrition
• Manage patient scheduling and maintain efficient clinic flow
• Coordinate and lead community prevention activities, such as sealant clinics and health fairs
• Maintain hygienist supplies and ensure proper instrument sterilization and infection control
• Participate in required competencies and complete other duties as assigned to support the care team

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited two-year Dental Hygiene program (Bachelor’s degree preferred)
• Successful completion of the National Board Examination for Dental Hygienists
• Active Dental Hygiene license in Alaska or another U.S. state (Alaska license preferred)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 45 days of start and maintained thereafter
• Clinical Competency Assessment completed within 3 months of hire and every 3 years
• High Risk Competency completed within 3 months of hire and annually
• High school diploma or GED

Education

• Graduation from an accredited two-year Dental Hygiene program required
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong clinical hygiene skills and accurate clinical judgment
• Knowledge of dental and periodontal disease and appropriate treatment therapies
• Competence in dental radiography and use of dental instruments
• Proper infection control techniques and instrument sterilization practices
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and patient education ability
• Good manual dexterity and the ability to sit and work over patients for extended periods
