Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide expert casting, splinting, and brace fitting in the dedicated outpatient casting room
- Treat an active caseload of roughly 10-15 casting patients per day with efficiency and compassion
- Perform cast saw work, univalving, wedging, windowing, removal, and trimming of casts
- Fit crutches, canes, and braces and deliver clear gait training and patient education
- Document care accurately in EPIC and communicate effectively with the interdisciplinary team
- Maintain a safe, organized casting area and follow infection control and facility guidelines
Qualifications
- OTC certification from NBCOT required (OTC - NBCOT)
- Minimum 2 years of orthopedic or outpatient casting/splinting experience
- Outpatient clinic experience required
- Comfortable charting in EPIC
- BLS certification preferred
- Pending state license is not accepted; active applicable credentials required
- Locals and travel clinicians both accepted
Education
- OTC certification (NBCOT) required
Knowledge & Skills
- Casting techniques: fiberglass, synthetic, cylinder, gauntlet, long arm, short arm and short leg casts
- Splint fabrication: long arm posterior, thumb spica, foot muff, gutter and hand muff splints
- Cast modifications: univalve, wedging, windowing, trim and remove
- Bracing and immobilizers: hinged knee, shoulder immobilizer, wrist braces, velcro knee braces
- Mobility aids: crutch and cane fitting, gait training
- Patient education skills to ensure safe home care and compliance
- Familiarity with cast saw safety and blade replacement
- Efficient documentation in EPIC
