Shift Type: Night 3x12-Hour (6:45 PM - 7:15 AM), typically 3 nights/week (36 hours) with 48-hour option accepted; every-other-weekend rotation; holidays required; Charge role required for nights. Schedule per unit needs.

Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality med/surg nursing care for adult and geriatric patients, managing a typical daily census of ~43
- Safely initiate and manage insulin and heparin drips, and perform wound vac dressing changes
- Deliver respiratory support including High Flow Nasal Cannula and short-term BiPAP as needed
- Act as the night charge nurse when assigned, leading the team, coordinating patient flow, and supporting bedside staff
- Chart accurately and efficiently in EPIC and use PYXIS for medication administration
- Monitor cardiac rhythms, interpret dysrhythmias and respond to cardiac events
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams — respiratory, PT, pharmacy, rapid response and others — to optimize patient outcomes
- Float to similar units and alternate care locations as needed and participate on inclement weather/storm teams
- Adhere to isolation precautions, PPE protocols and facility infection-control standards
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) licensure or eligibility to obtain licensure in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of recent med/surg nursing experience (unit will accept first-time travelers)
- BLS certification required (facility lists BCLS/BLS)
- EPIC experience required; PYXIS experience preferred
- Charge nurse experience required for night assignments
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
- CPI certification preferred
- Willingness to work holidays, weekends (every-other-weekend) and participate on storm/hurricane teams
- Flu vaccine required per facility guidelines (medical/religious exemptions allowed); COVID vaccination not required
Knowledge & Skills
- Med/Surg clinical expertise and strong patient assessment skills
- Management and interpretation of dysrhythmias and cardiac monitoring
- Competency with insulin and heparin infusions
- Experience with IV therapy and peripheral line care
- Wound vac care and wound dressing changes
- Familiarity with High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) and limited short-term BiPAP support
- Medication administration systems (PYXIS) and documentation in EPIC
- Clear SBAR communication and teamwork across disciplines
- Infection control and isolation precautions
