Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert critical care nursing for adult and geriatric patients in a Level III Trauma/Teaching Hospital ICU
• Manage ventilators and respiratory supports including BiPAP/CPAP and care for ventilated patients
• Perform and interpret cardiac monitoring and 12-lead EKGs; manage dysrhythmias and titrate cardiac/vasoactive drips
• Administer blood products and manage vascular access — central lines, arterial lines, PICCs and IV therapy
• Monitor patients through procedural sedation, chest tube care, and complex post-operative needs
• Document timely and accurately in Epic to keep the care team informed and the chart audit-ready
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary supports (pharmacy, IV teams, phlebotomy, interpretation services) to deliver seamless care
• Teach, mentor, and communicate clearly with patients, families, and colleagues to improve outcomes

Qualifications

• Current RN license (North Carolina) — pending licenses are NOT accepted
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience (required)
• Travel nursing experience required — comfortable as a traveler in a teaching/trauma setting
• Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications (required)
• Must pass an EKG exam — no exceptions
• Comfort working 1:2-3 patient ratios and night shift schedules, including every-other-weekend coverage
• Ability to float within scope between like units as needed

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong cardiac monitoring skills and EKG/ECG interpretation
• Ventilator management and care of the ventilated patient
• Central/arterial/PICC line management and blood product administration
• Titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips; IV insulin protocols
• Procedural sedation monitoring and emergency medication administration
• Chest tube management, BiPAP/CPAP management, and respiratory troubleshooting
• ICP monitoring, lumbar drain familiarity, and post-craniotomy care
• Proficient Epic charting and clear clinical documentation
