Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, competent nursing care to patients in a correctional healthcare setting
• Administer medications and treatments accurately and document all care thoroughly
• Perform focused assessments, monitor vital signs, and escalate changes in condition
• Collaborate with nurses, providers, and custody staff to coordinate safe, effective care
• Support chronic disease management and wound care plans under licensed provider direction
• Maintain strict infection control and safety procedures appropriate for a secure facility
• Participate in orientation, training, and quality improvement initiatives to support excellent care

Qualifications

• Active Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license (state licensure appropriate to assignment)
• Current BLS/CPR certification or willingness to obtain prior to start
• Ability to pass required background checks and facility security clearances
• Comfortable working in a correctional healthcare environment; prior correctional experience is a plus
• Strong clinical judgment, documentation skills, and ability to work independently
• Up-to-date immunizations and TB screening per facility requirements

Education

• Completion of an accredited vocational nursing program and LVN licensure

Knowledge & Skills

• Medication administration and medication reconciliation
• Basic nursing assessments and focused clinical observations
• Charting and clinical documentation with attention to detail
• Infection control practices and universal precautions
• Effective communication with multidisciplinary teams and patients
• Ability to follow security protocols while delivering patient-centered care
