Roles & Responsibilities
- Administer respiratory medications and deliver therapies (aerosols, MDI) independently or in consultation with physicians
- Perform therapeutic modalities and cardiopulmonary diagnostic testing to evaluate and treat patients
- Respond immediately to Rapid Responses, arrests and STAT situations, maintaining artificial airways and providing CPR and advanced life support
- Set up, adjust and maintain oxygen therapy according to protocol
- Provide hands-on airway management and ventilator support as needed
- Document patient assessments, treatments and outcomes accurately in the EMR (Epic)
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses and the care team to develop and revise patient care plans
- Contribute to quality improvement and patient safety initiatives in the respiratory therapy department
Qualifications
- Active Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential through NBRC — required
- Active Michigan license (LARA) — must state Active Michigan/MI License
- Minimum 2+ years of RRT experience — required
- Active ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA), PALS (AHA) and NRP certifications — required
- Current skills checklist (within 1 year) and two supervisory reference forms completed within the last two years — required
- Previous travel respiratory therapy experience — preferred
- Current documentation of work history and ability to meet facility address requirements (facility will not consider local candidates within 50-mile radius)
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong airway management and ventilator care skills
- Proficient in medication delivery via aerosol and metered-dose inhalers
- Skilled in oxygen therapy setup and management
- Experience with cardiopulmonary diagnostic testing and interpretation
- Comfortable responding to rapid response and code situations with effective CPR and advanced life support
- Familiarity with Epic EMR for documentation and order follow-up
- Excellent communication and teamwork in acute care settings
- Attention to detail and adherence to protocols and safety standards
