Roles & Responsibilities

• Assist residents with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, toileting, grooming) with dignity and respect
• Provide safe mobility support and help with transfers to reduce fall risk
• Monitor and document vital signs, intake/output, and noticeable changes in condition
• Support dining assistance and meal setup, ensuring nutrition and hydration needs are met
• Communicate changes in resident condition to nurses and participate in care plan updates
• Maintain a clean, safe environment and follow infection control and safety protocols
• Build rapport and provide compassionate, person-centered care that honors each resident’s preferences

Qualifications

• Current GNA certification (or state-equivalent) — Maryland certification preferred or the ability to obtain it
• Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification preferred or ability to obtain
• Comfortable working night shift hours and interacting with older adult populations
• Background check, drug screening, and required health screenings (TB, immunizations) per facility policy
• Strong communication skills, reliability, and a team-first attitude
• Previous long-term care or geriatric experience is a plus but enthusiastic new grads are welcome

Education

• High school diploma or GED required
• Completion of an approved GNA training program

Knowledge & Skills

• Understanding of activities of daily living (ADLs) and safe resident handling
• Ability to accurately observe and record resident status and changes
• Knowledge of infection control practices and HIPAA patient privacy standards
• Good interpersonal skills for working with residents, families, and interdisciplinary teams
• Time management and the ability to prioritize resident needs during a busy shift
