Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, hands-on care to geriatric residents and treat each person with dignity
- Assist residents with activities of daily living including bathing, dressing, toileting, and mobility
- Monitor and record vital signs and communicate changes to the nursing team promptly
- Support safe transfers and fall prevention to keep residents secure and independent
- Help with meal assistance and ensuring residents receive proper nutrition
- Document care accurately and contribute to resident care plans
- Build positive relationships with residents and their families through clear, kind communication
- Work collaboratively with nurses and interdisciplinary staff to deliver consistent, high-quality care
Qualifications
- GNA certification required (Geriatric Nursing Assistant) as indicated in the job class
- Current/state certification or eligibility to obtain Maryland GNA/CNA credentials
- Comfortable assisting with ADLs and working with older adult populations
- Clear background check, health screening and up to date immunizations per facility policy
- Previous experience in elder care or long term care is a plus but compassionate attitude matters most
- Basic life support (BLS) certification preferred or willing to obtain
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
- GNA certification or state equivalent
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of geriatric care principles and resident-centered practices
- Strong observational skills for noticing changes in condition
- Effective, respectful communication with residents, families and team members
- Solid infection control and safety practices
- Reliable documentation and basic charting skills
- Ability to work in a fast paced long term care environment with empathy
