Roles & Responsibilities
- Assess adult and geriatric patients with comprehensive SLP evaluations and create individualized treatment plans
- Perform bedside swallow evaluations, FEES, and participate in MBS studies and MBS-IMP documentation
- Manage dysphagia, tracheostomy and ventilator-associated communication and swallowing needs
- Implement compensatory strategies and rehabilitative techniques to improve patient outcomes
- Document thoroughly and accurately in Epic, including SLP evaluation coding and Medicare-required documentation
- Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate discharge planning and continuity of care
- Provide patient and family education, in-service training, and support functional maintenance programs
- Contribute to unit quality by participating in reassessments, plan of care updates, and clinical readiness evaluations
Qualifications
- Active Alaska SLP license required (pending licenses not accepted)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Minimum 1 year of SLP clinical experience; first-time travel clinicians are welcome
- Experience with dysphagia management, bedside swallow evaluation, FEES and MBS preferred
- Comfort treating a range of acuity from ICU-level to SNF/OP patients; ICU coverage assessed clinically
- Familiarity with Epic charting and SLP evaluation coding
- Ability to work within acute hospital policies, weekend coverage expectations, and provided scrub protocol
Knowledge & Skills
- Dysphagia management and bedside swallow evaluation
- FEES and Modified Barium Swallow (MBS) competency and MBS-IMP completion
- Tracheostomy and ventilator-associated care
- Adult and geriatric patient care across acute settings
- Augmentative and alternative communication, communication boards and memory aides
- Compensatory strategies, thickening agents, and laryngectomy care
- Billing, documentation best practices and Medicare A/B familiarity
- Strong interdisciplinary collaboration, patient/family education and in-service training
