Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide skilled therapeutic interventions and assist patients in achieving functional goals
- Implement treatment plans under the supervision of the physical therapist with attention to safety and efficacy
- Assist patients with mobility, transfers, gait training and therapeutic exercises
- Document patient progress clearly and timely in the medical record
- Educate patients and families on home exercise programs and strategies to maximize recovery
- Collaborate with nurses, therapists and support staff to deliver coordinated, patient-centered care
- Maintain therapy equipment and a clean, organized treatment area
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and patient satisfaction efforts
Qualifications
- Current and unrestricted Virginia Physical Therapist Assistant license (required)
- Graduation from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program
- BLS/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain prior to start)
- Comfortable with electronic documentation and basic rehab equipment
- Strong communication and teamwork skills and a patient-centered attitude
- Ability to pass facility background checks and required screenings
Education
- Associate degree in Physical Therapist Assistant (AAS) from an accredited program
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled in therapeutic exercise, modalities and functional mobility training
- Experience with gait training, transfers and assistive device coaching
- Proficient with patient assessment and progress documentation
- Good clinical reasoning and ability to follow established care plans
- Strong interpersonal skills for working with patients and multidisciplinary teams
