Roles & Responsibilities
- Support the mental health care team by greeting patients, taking vitals, and preparing them for clinical assessments
- Document patient encounters accurately in the electronic health record to keep care coordinated and safe
- Assist clinicians with screenings, intake paperwork, and basic clinical tasks to keep clinic flow smooth
- Manage supplies and maintain clean, organized exam and interview rooms to support infection control
- Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients and staff while protecting patient privacy and confidentiality
- Coordinate appointments and follow-up care, helping patients access the services they need
Qualifications
- Certified or experienced Medical Assistant with hands-on clinical experience
- Experience or strong interest in mental health settings preferred
- Current CPR certification
- Ability to pass background checks and required facility clearances for correctional settings
- Excellent communication skills and comfort working with diverse patient populations
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with electronic health records preferred
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Completion of a Medical Assistant program or equivalent clinical training preferred
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or similar credential preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Proficient in taking and recording vital signs accurately
- Solid documentation skills and attention to detail
- Knowledge of HIPAA and patient privacy best practices
- Calm, de-escalation and interpersonal skills suitable for behavioral health environments
- Ability to follow safety protocols specific to correctional health settings
- Team-oriented mindset and the ability to prioritize tasks in a busy clinic
