Roles & Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain a safe, sterile catheterization lab environment and set up equipment for a variety of cardiac and vascular procedures
- Assist physicians during diagnostic and interventional procedures including PCI, angioplasty, pacemaker and AICD implantation
- Monitor patients’ hemodynamics, manage IV therapy, and observe procedural sedation throughout cases
- Perform radiation safety practices and adhere to fluoroscopy permit requirements during imaging procedures
- Document procedures and patient care accurately in Epic to ensure continuity and compliance
- Provide patient and family education pre- and post-procedure to support recovery and reduce anxiety
- Respond quickly and skillfully to emergencies, administer emergency medications and support advanced cardiac life support as needed
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to optimize patient flow, room turnover and quality outcomes
Qualifications
- Active RN license (state licensure required for practice in Washington; facility may consider pending fluoroscopy permits if already applied)
- Minimum 2 years of relevant cath lab or interventional cardiovascular nursing experience
- Required certifications: BLS and ACLS
- Required: Fluoroscopy permit and ARRT (or equivalent) — RCIS only is not acceptable
- Comfortable with call responsibilities and every-other-weekend coverage
- Familiarity with Epic charting preferred
- Able to complete 30-hour facility orientation
Knowledge & Skills
- Cardiac catheterization and diagnostic/interventional coronary procedures (PCI, stent placement)
- Electrophysiology procedures, pacemaker and AICD insertion and programming
- Vascular interventions and peripheral angiography/angioplasty
- Monitoring procedural sedation, hemodynamics and interpretation/management of dysrhythmias
- IV therapy, ACT monitoring, sheath removal and vascular closure systems
- Radiation and laser safety practices and fluoroscopy operation awareness
- Experience with advanced devices like Impella and IABP
- Proficiency with Epic electronic charting and interdisciplinary communication
