Roles & Responsibilities

• Deliver safe, high-quality patient care using the nursing process: assess, plan, implement and evaluate
• Provide direct emergency department care and manage telemetry patients within scope of practice
• Communicate changes in patient condition and coordinate with physicians and interdisciplinary team
• Respond quickly and accurately to acute changes and patient responses to treatment
• Provide patient and family teaching and guide activities of other nursing personnel
• Follow EMTALA regulations and report suspected child or adult abuse to appropriate agencies
• Maintain patient privacy, confidentiality, and professional nursing standards
• Float to other units of competency as needed to support patient care demands

Qualifications

• Current and valid state Registered Nurse (RN) license
• Minimum 1 year experience as a staff RN in an acute care hospital, preferably in the Emergency Department
• Current BLS (AHA or Red Cross)
• Current ACLS (AHA or Red Cross)
• Current PALS (AHA or Red Cross)
• Behavioral Violence Prevention (BVP) certificate and DCI/BVP training
• Meditech EMR experience
• NIHSS, EDAP and EDAP II certifications preferred or required as listed
• Able to float to other units of competency and adapt to changing assignments
• Willing to complete required pre-employment screenings and immunizations

Knowledge & Skills

• Solid grasp of the nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation
• Telemetry monitoring and rhythm interpretation skills
• Competence with Meditech electronic medical record
• Basic pharmacology knowledge and acute care clinical skills
• Familiarity with EMTALA and mandatory reporting requirements
• Strong communication, critical thinking, and rapid decision-making skills
• Ability to teach patients and families and lead other nursing staff during shifts
