Roles & Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for nuclear medicine studies with care and clear communication to ensure comfort and cooperation
- Perform high-quality diagnostic nuclear medicine scans following established protocols and safety standards
- Administer radiopharmaceuticals safely and document procedures accurately
- Operate, monitor, and troubleshoot imaging equipment (gamma camera, dose calibrator, survey meters, etc.) and report issues promptly
- Maintain a clean, organized workspace and ensure required PPE and radiation protection are used
- Participate in teaching and instructional activities to support peers and trainees
- Collaborate with radiologists, physicians, and the broader care team to communicate findings and support patient care
- Provide compassionate, age-appropriate care for patients across the lifespan
Qualifications
- Current Hawaiʻi Nuclear Medicine Technologist license (required)
- Current BLS/HCP certification (required)
- One (1) year of Nuclear Medicine experience preferred — new graduates are welcome to apply
- Demonstrated knowledge of nuclear medicine physics, radiopharmaceutical administration, and radiation safety
- Experience operating nuclear medicine equipment and performing diagnostic imaging
- Strong critical thinking, communication, and patient-care skills
- Ability to work independently in a single-tech rural setting while leveraging system resources
- Physical ability to meet job demands (e.g., lift/carry up to 30 lbs; push/pull up to 50 lbs)
Knowledge & Skills
- Patient preparation and compassionate patient interaction
- Diagnostic imaging principles and best practices
- Radiopharmaceutical administration and safety protocols
- Nuclear medicine physics and radiation safety
- Equipment operation and routine troubleshooting (gamma camera, dose calibrator, well counter, thyroid uptake probe)
- Use of survey meters and radiation monitoring tools
- Basic computer and documentation skills
- Teaching/instruction and mentoring
- Ability to care for patients of all ages and adapt communication to developmental needs
- Independent practice in a rural healthcare environment
