Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and triage patients quickly and accurately in a busy emergency department
• Provide timely interventions and administer medications and treatments according to orders
• Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers and the interdisciplinary team to coordinate care
• Monitor and respond to changes in patient condition, including participating in code responses
• Document care clearly and efficiently in the unit documentation system, Meditech
• Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatments and follow up plans
• Follow unit policies, safety protocols and the indicated dress and professionalism standards

Qualifications

• Active RN license in Texas required; temporary licenses will not be accepted
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience with 2+ years of emergency department specialty experience
• Current BLS, ACLS, PALS and TNCC certifications required
• NIH certification required
• Meditech experience preferred
• Comfortable working 12-hour night shifts, every other weekend and participating in call rotations

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program; ADN or BSN acceptable, BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong emergency nursing assessment and triage skills
• Ability to manage high-acuity and rapidly changing patient conditions
• Proficient clinical documentation and charting using Meditech
• Excellent communication and teamwork in fast paced settings
• Critical thinking and prioritization under pressure
• Compassionate patient and family education and support
