Roles & Responsibilities
- Audit medical records to ensure accurate CPT and ICD-10 code assignment and compliance
- Compile clear, actionable audit reports with analysis and recommendations
- Maintain audit logs and ensure productivity targets for record reviews are met
- Communicate findings to providers verbally and in writing to validate observations
- Design and implement documentation tools and education plans with the Revenue Cycle Manager
- Train and mentor revenue cycle staff on coding and documentation best practices
- Perform coding when warranted to support team operations and backfill as needed
- Support provider education initiatives to improve clinical documentation and coding accuracy
Qualifications
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC) — required
- Associate degree in a related field — required; Bachelor's degree in a related field — preferred
- Five years of combined inpatient/outpatient coding and auditing experience
- Experience coding professional claims in a medical office-based setting
- Proven experience interacting with physicians and providing documentation feedback
- Prior auditing experience and familiarity with multi-specialty coding preferred
Education
- Associate Degree in a related field (required)
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field (preferred)
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding guidelines
- Experience with physician professional claims and clinical documentation review
- Skilled in conducting coding audits and compiling analysis reports
- Able to educate providers, coders and charge entry personnel on documentation requirements
- Familiarity with coding across multiple specialties and revenue cycle processes
- Excellent written and verbal communication for provider engagement
