Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide expert, compassionate care to hemodynamically stable and predictably unstable patients on the Progressive Care unit
- Perform thorough patient assessments and intervene early when status changes
- Operate advanced medical equipment including IV pumps, ventilatory support devices, arterial and central line management
- Monitor and interpret cardiac telemetry and EKGs to guide timely interventions
- Manage complex invasive lines and devices such as chest tubes, nasogastric tubes, and continuous bladder irrigation
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate care from admission through discharge
- Act as a clinical leader on the unit: mentor peers, assist with precepting, and support junior staff
- Participate in discharge planning and ensure safe transitions for patients
Qualifications
- Current Montana RN licensure (required)
- BLS and ACLS required; PALS required or obtainable within 6 months of hire
- EPNC and TNCC certifications preferred
- Recent experience in Progressive Care, Critical Care, or advanced Medical/Surgical nursing
- Comfortable with advanced nursing procedures and complex patient care
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across disciplines
Education
- Degree from a Nursing Program
Knowledge & Skills
- Patient assessment and advanced nursing procedures
- Cardiac telemetry and EKG interpretation
- Ventilatory support and working with noninvasive/invasive ventilators
- Central and arterial line management, chest tube and nasogastric tube care
- IV management and use of multiple IV pumps
- Care coordination, discharge planning, and precepting skills
- Familiarity with a broad medical-surgical patient population including cardiology, pulmonary, renal, endocrine, vascular and post-operative care
